JACKSON, Miss. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - The Mississippi Supreme Court has reinstated the conviction of a man accused of fondling.

David Campbell of Oxford was convicted in 2010 of inappropriate contact with a teenager who was living at his home. He was acquitted on a sexual battery count. He was sentenced to seven years with five years suspended.

The state Court of Appeal overturned the conviction last year. It ruled Campbell was not in a position of trust or authority over the girl because he was not certified or held a license as required by law.

The Supreme Court, in Thursday's ruling, said there was sufficient evidence for the jury to determine that Campbell was in a position of trust or authority over the girl because he acted as her parent.
