Richland Parish fatal motorcycle crash blamed on deer

RICHLAND PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - State Police say a Delhi man was killed and his passenger injured when his motorcycle struck a deer crossing the highway Sunday night.

Trooper say the accident happened just before 9:00 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 134 west of Louisiana Highway 183. The preliminary investigation reveals a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, driven by 67-year-old Bobby Davis of Delhi, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 134 when it struck a deer that was crossing the road. The motorcycle drove off the right side of the road and into a drainage ditch. 

Davis was wearing a helmet and suffered fatal injuries. Davis was pronounced dead on scene by the Richland Parish Coroner's office.  The passenger, 66-year-old Mary Davis of Delhi, was wearing a helmet and was transported to Richardson Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Alcohol use is not suspected. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
