Locals help students in need for the new school year

MONROE La. (KNOE 8 News) - With the start of a new school year almost here, it's time to start buying those school supplies.

But some families in need aren't able to afford everything on a child's list.

That's why KNOE 8 News did what we could to help. All day Thursday we collected school supplies.

Ouachita Valley Federal Credit Union, Raising Canes and Debbie's Snowballs teamed up with KNOE, and we were out front all day on Thursday on Oliver Road collecting school supplies like pens, pencils, notebooks, and donations to fill up the bus from people who stopped by.

The school supplies are for students in northeast Louisiana, and this is the ninth year for the drive. Jessica Nugent from Ouachita Valley Credit Union said this is the best turn-out that the supply drive has ever had.

Jessica also said they have another event Friday at the Chennault golf course all day. If you bring five school supplies, or make a five dollar donation and you can play 18 holes for $15.
