MADISON PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Louisiana State Police tell KNOE 8 News a sixth guard has been arrested and fired in connection with an inmate beating at the Madison Parish Detention Center.

LSP Investigators arrested 34-year-old Dexter Williams of Tallulah in Madison Parish at approximately 11:15 a.m. Wednesday (July 31, 2013). Williams has been charged with malfeasance in office and was booked into the Madison Parish Jail.

Williams is now among six guards arrested in connection with the alleged beating incident.

MADISON PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Five guards have been arrested in connection with the beating of an inmate at the Madison Parish Detention Center.

According to Louisiana State Police, the detention center guards are employed by the parish sheriff's department.  The sheriff's department does not own the detention center though they do run its daily operations.

The five deputies arrested are: Timothy James, Clint Freeman, Toney Barber, Gary James and Tori Thomas. All five of the guards are charged with malfeasance in office. Timothy James and Toney barber also face aggravated battery charges.

The inmate involved in the incident, whose name is not being released, is not hospitalized and is still in the detention center.

The five guards are being held at the Madison Parish Jail.  The arrests follow an investigation by the Louisiana State Police.
