Councilwoman ready to serve on I-20 Board

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - On the agenda for Tuesday's Monroe City Council meeting, Councilwoman Gretchen Ezernack is nominating herself for a position on the I-20 Economic Board.

After months of Mayor Jamie Mayo removing members off the I-20 Board, and the City Council attempting to reappoint them, there are now only three members serving on the seven-person board.

Until another member is appointed, the board can't vote on anything, including a major project connecting the service road to Millhaven.

"We had to shut that project down until we can consider a change order," says city Economic Development Officer, Dwight Vines.

Things may be looking up. On the City Council's agenda, Councilwoman Gretchen Ezernack has nominated someone from the council, herself.

"I felt like, that I was the most qualified person," says Ezernack, and she's not the only person who feels that way.

"She served on the board previously," says Vines, "She is a commercial realtor, and I've seen her in operation, she's a very good board member."

It's not just her experience on the board that's making her want to step back in to the position.

"Someone's got to step forward," says Ezernack, "someone's got to take at least the initiative to try to see what they can do to settle this and get it moving on and get some of these projects off the board."

She knows that many of these projects are time sensitive and if appointed Tuesday, she's ready to get started right away. Ezernack is the only nomination on the agenda as of now but more appointments could be made for the other three open positions on the board.
