NEW ORLEANS (KNOE 8 News/AP) - It's been two months since a shooting at a second-line parade on Mother's Day in New Orleans left 20 people injured, some of whom are still recovering.

Friends of one of the victims, Gambit reporter Deborah Cotton, are organizing a benefit on her behalf. Cotton's injuries were among the most severe, requiring several surgeries and more than a month-long hospitalization.

The $10 event will feature DJ Soul Sister, complimentary food from Boucherie and an art show. All of the ticket proceeds and 15 percent of the art sales will be donated to a fund to help Cotton with medical and recovery expenses.

Themed, "It's a Love Thing," the benefit is scheduled Friday, July 26, at 10 p.m. at Gasa Gasa on Freret Street.
