MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Jovar Johnson is behind bars Friday after taking the Monroe Police Department and Louisiana State Troopers on a high speed chase throughout the city.

Our cameras were there as six Monroe Police Officers had to wrestle Jovar Johnson to the ground and use their taser to subdue him. Police say he was high on PCP when he led them, Ouachita Parish Sheriff's deputies and state troopers on a dangerous 18 minute long high speed chase. They say he robbed after robbing several people at gun point and stealing this car.

Officers at the Monroe Police Department say Jovar Johnson's police chase began right here at this Valero gas station at 8:30 this morning.

It started on US 165-South leading police through the Booker T area, down Powell Street, at this point still speeds within reason. Until he hit I-20, that's when speeds were in excess of 100 miles per hour. Police made multiple attempts to stop him with stop sticks and road blocks but the only thing that worked against Johnson an empty gas tank on Highway 15 near Richland Parish.

"The pursuit ended in that area, it is believed to be because the vehicle due to high speeds, he ran the vehicle out of gas," said Sgt. Mark Johnson.

Multiple tasing's isn't the end of the punishment for Johnson. He's charged with aggravated battery, vehicle theft, aggravated assault, aggravated flight from an officer, and officers still have to count all of the traffic violations. Officers say this was a best case scenario ending for police because nobody was hurt in the frightening ordeal.

Police say this is just another example of how well all there law enforcement agencies work together ... to keep you safe.
