OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Louisiana State Police report that a man was killed driving while unrestrained on Independence Day.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Chevrolet truck, driven by 22-year-old Austin Antley of West Monroe, was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 557 when it drove off the left side of the road, into a ditch, then struck a tree and overturned.

Antley was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. Antley suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner's office.

Alcohol use is suspected. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Making poor decisions in a vehicle, such as driving while impaired, driving while distracted or reckless driving, leads to serious injuries and deaths across the state each year. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Troopers remind motorists to never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol, never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver, never allow an impaired person to get behind the wheel, and always wear a seatbelt.

Troop F has investigated 28 fatal crashes which have resulted in 30 deaths so far this year.
