MONROE, La (KNOE 8 News) - July is national cell phone courtesy month. This event was founded by Jacqueline Whitmore a leading international etiquette expert. It began in 2002 with the intent to encourage users to be more respectful of their surroundings by using some simple cell phone etiquette principles.

Like Whitmore many local cell phones users feel people use their cell phones in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"Especially when I go to the movies people bring it out and start texting and its dark and I am trying to focus on the screen it just takes your focus away from it especially when its a funny movie or its an intense scene and somebody opens their phone up and starts looking at it" says Jason Prudencio.

" Being in the doctors office or a small intimate setting and someone's phone rings some annoying ring tone and they pick it up in regular language as loud as they can their normal voice and speak in the doctors office while I am sitting and waiting and I can hear everything that is going on in their life" says Nicole Gregory.
