NEW ORLEANS (KNOE 8 News/AP) - A former high-ranking employee of the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office has been sentenced to five year in prison for coordinating a bid-rigging and kickback scheme with contractors.

Federal prosecutors say John Sens, who pleaded guilty and is cooperating in an ongoing probe of Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman's agency, received a free pool and $30,000 in cash from businessmen who received contracts to do work at the Orleans Parish Prison.

U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt imposed the maximum sentence on Sens Wednesday for conspiracy to commit bribery.

He also ordered Sens to pay back $67,500.
