MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo is waiting on city council members to take action, filling seats on the I-20 Board. Until that happens, several projects along Millhaven Road and Pecanland Mall Drive are at a stand-still.

"This city council, in my opinion, is not showing any urgency to select new members," Mayo said.

As of Wednesday morning, only three people are on the board. Those members attempted to meet at the Monroe City Hall. Two businessmen, Mayo, along with several city workers were present. Earnest Johnson was not in attendance.

Monday, KNOE 8 News captured Johnson on video being told about the meeting. He's now officially not a member anymore. Johnson has also not returned our phone calls for any further comment.

"The letter has been executed removing Mister Johnson from the I-20 Economic Development Board," Mayo said.
A service road near Sparks Nissan Kia in Monroe is a project the I-20 Board is leading but, that project and others are on pause until city council members make appointments.

"It's on them now to appoint new members to the board so we can move forward," Mayo said.

This I-20 board shake-up is the second major shift. The first major change took place about 8 years ago adding the mayor and a council member onto the board along with other business owners.

We reached out to City Council Chair Eddie Clark but he has yet to return our calls. Also, as of Wednesday, a letter from the mayor's office is on its way to Johnson's home telling him he's officially off the board.

The I-20 Board is responsible for helping business boom in Monroe by getting developers to set up stores, hotels, and restaurants. City leaders believe this will help bring in more tax revenue to the area.
