LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - The Arkansas Board of Corrections is clarifying that the woman it picked to lead the state's parole and probation system is only doing so on a temporary basis.

The board voted Tuesday to hire Sheila Sharp as the interim director of the Department of Community Correction. The board on Monday voted to hire Sharp but omitted the word "interim" in its motion.

Sharp is a deputy director at the state Department of Correction, where she's worked for 15 years. She replaces David Eberhard, who abruptly announced his retirement Monday.

Eberhard's departure comes as his office faces questions about its handling of a case involving a Little Rock man accused in a May killing. That man was allowed to remain on parole despite multiple felony charges since his 2008 prison release.
