Mayor plans to remove "no show" board member

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The I-20 Economic Development Board was scheduled to meet at Monroe City Hall Tuesday evening, but one of its four members was a no-show, again.

As KNOE 8 News first reported Monday, Ernest Johnson refuses to attend the board's meetings. He says it's because of an ongoing investigation by the legislative auditor.

Johnson is one of four remaining board members, following a dispute between Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council, debated in the courts.

Tonight, Mayor Mayo tells KNOE he will remove Johnson from the board. The mayor says appointing several new members is on the agenda for Monday's city council meeting.

Johnson's absence means there is no quorum, and the board cannot vote on projects and other requests. Among those projects being held up by the board's inaction is the new service road extension near Peacanland Mall. That project is currently at a standstill as a result.
