1 dead in house fire in Vicksburg

VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - A Vicksburg man died and his nephew escaped through a window when fire destroyed their home Monday.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey says 46-year-old Willie Williams was pronounced dead at 5:56 a.m. An autopsy was ordered.

Vicksburg fire investigator James York says Williams' body was not found until nearly four hours after the fire was reported because the roof over his bedroom collapsed in flames, blocking firefighters' access.

Williams and his nephew 26-year-old Derrick Porter shared the home. Porter was not injured.

York says the fire started in the kitchen area about 2 a.m. He says the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
