UPDATE: Sheriff gives details on accidental shooting

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Sheriff Jay Russell confirms that a 16-year-old teen was shot in the head this morning.

Sheriff Deputies responded to 5173 Highway 34 in Eros.  

Sheriff Jay Russell says that he believes that the teenager was shot in the head with a .22 caliber rifle.  He also says that a 20-year-old was with the teen at the time of the shooting, as well as, the home's owner.

Pafford EMS airlifted the teen from West Ouachita High School.  There's no word on the teen's condition.

Sheriff Russell says that they are still interviewing witnesses and that the investigation is ongoing.

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office is responding to a shooting at a house involving a child.  

Deputies were dispatched to 5173 Highway 34 in Eros being told that a child had shot themselves while playing with a gun.

KNOE 8 News has a crew in route to the scene at this time.  We'll have more information as it becomes available.
