Man fleeing police crashes in Bayou Vista

Posted: Updated:

BAYOU VISTA, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - An Amelia man wanted on warrants for kidnapping and battery led a St. Mary sheriff's deputy on a high-speed chase before crashing his vehicle in Bayou Vista.

31-year-old Jovian Jerome Clark will be booked with a host of offenses related to the chase after his release from Teche Regional Medical Center.

Clark also faces one count of second-degree kidnapping stemming from an incident March 26 in which he allegedly held a female hostage in a vehicle while threatening her life.

The chain of events that led to Clark's arrest on Wednesday started with an argument between Clark and another person, which was investigated by a deputy who spotted Clark's vehicle and knew there were warrants for his arrest.

It was unclear whether Clark has an attorney.
