AMITE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Tangipahoa Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested a 35-year-old man accused of operating a methamphetamine lab that exploded at his home in Amite.

Jacob Cruse was booked Tuesday on counts of operation, creation or possession of a clandestine lab and simple arson.

The Amite Fire Department contacted the sheriff's office on June 11 to help investigate a fire.

Sheriff's office narcotics detectives helped investigate the fire because of a strong odor coming from the home.

It was unclear whether Cruse has an attorney.
