NEW ORLEANS (KNOE 8 News/AP) - A former New Orleans police officer has asked a federal judge to postpone his retrial on charges he wrote a false report on a fatal police shooting in Hurricane Katrina's aftermath.

Travis McCabe's retrial is scheduled to begin on Sept. 23, but his attorneys on Wednesday asked for more time to prepare. U.S. District Judge Lance Africk didn't immediately rule on the request.

Africk ordered a new trial for McCabe based on evidence that surfaced after a jury convicted him in 2010 of writing a false report on the shooting of 31-year-old Henry Glover.

Former officer David Warren shot Glover outside a strip mall less than a week after the 2005 storm. A different officer later burned Glover's body in a car.

Warren awaits a separate retrial scheduled for December.
