Verdict in the I-20 board hearing

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) – At Wednesdays hearing addressing, the I-20 Economic Development board controversy. The judge extended the restraining order on the four city council members Eddie Clark, Ray Armstrong, Kenneth Wilson , and Betty Blakes.

The restraining order was initially put in place earlier this month in connection to the I-20 board.

The named council members attempted to limit the mayor's power to remove members after Mayor Mayo decided to relieve two of them from the commission.

The council reappointed the members. Then, mayor removed them again, and sought a restraining order so the process would not repeat itself.

After the ruling, the restraining order remains in effect, but the council can appoint members to the I-20 board. They cannot pass any ordinances limiting the mayor's power in connection to the board.

"What we should be talking about is development in the I-20 district and not some of the topics we have talked about during this particular issue we need to move away from that and we need to move forward and do things that we know are going to be a plus for the district and that is what I am all about," says Mayo.

We tried to speak with the two of the council members present in the hearing, but they refused to comment on the ruling and what they will do next.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the I-20 Economic Development board is scheduled for tomorrow night.
