Monroe board approves new principal

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Former Lee Junior High principal Whitney Martin has been named principal of Neville High School.

The Monroe City School Board on Tuesday approved Martin to replace former principal Brent Vidrine, who resigned to become superintendent of Monroe City School System on June 1.

She has most recently worked with the Louisiana Department of Education assisting school districts in northeastern Louisiana.

Martin will assume the leadership of a school that has applied to the Monroe City School Board to convert from a traditional public school to a charter school.

Although approved in May 2012, the board failed to negotiate the shared services contract with the school.

A reconsideration of the application late last year was denied by the Monroe City School Board.
