MONROE La. (KNOE 8 News) - Thirty-six young ladies are in Monroe gearing up to show their talents, beauty, and brains in this year's 50th anniversary Miss Louisiana Pageant.

Even though the crowning moment is Saturday the ladies are already being watched closely by the judges.

Ladies from all over the bayou state are in Monroe to be crowned Miss Louisiana 2013.

The ladies are rehearsing all week for the show on Saturday, but they know this week is about more than just rehearsal.

"This is day three of our seven day experience for miss Louisiana week were working on rehearsals now and some of us are even lucky enough to finish our interviews today," said Keely Childress, Monroe contestant.

Each lady met with the judges this week for an interview and even though the public couldn't see it is a huge part of the process.

"Very important they comprise 25% of the score and that's really your first impression to the judges. Its where we can tell a little bit about ourselves and about our platform and they really get to know us," said Julianne Tippen, West Monroe contestant.

Amy Dousay is competing her 2nd year for the crown. She shared what inspired her throughout the competition.

"I've been watching Miss America Pageant ever since I was a young child but also, the Miss Louisiana Pageant has been broadcasted for the last 15 years so for quite some time I was able to watch it as well," said Amy Dousay, Calhoun contestant.

And the young women told us what they do to keep their head in the competition and what it is like to be on stage.

"Every day just act like I already am Miss Louisiana. I've worked hard and we all have," said Tippen.

"I'm really looking forward to every night of the competition. But in particular the finals night on Saturday, said Childress.

"Regardless of whether you make top 10 or top 5 or if you're the winner, you learn so much and it's such an amazing experience and you feel honored to be on stage," said Dousay.

The contestants have a few more days of preliminary judging before the field is narrowed for the Miss Louisiana crown for 2013.

Remember KNOE 8 news is your official Miss Louisiana station. You'll see the crowning moment on KNOE starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.
