BOGALUSA, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - The former kitchen manager at the Washington Parish jail is accused of getting information from an inmate to claim the inmate as a dependent for federal taxes.

45-year-old Tonya Butler was booked Tuesday with abusing her office.

Sheriff Randy Seal said Wednesday that the inmate told investigators she felt compelled to give Butler her birthdate and Social Security number because Butler could remove her from the kitchen work crew.

Butler is free on $10,000 bond. She resigned in May from the job she had held since July 2012.

She has no listed phone number and could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Seal says information about the case has been turned over to the Internal Revenue Service.
