CEO controversy at Tallulah hospital

Posted: Updated:

TALLULAH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Board members at Madison Parish Hospital put the CEO on administrative leave earlier this month. They didn't tell the public why until today and some people have a hard time swallowing the reasons given for Scott Barrilleaux's departure.

I spoke with one former employee who says the rational the board gave for putting Scott Barrilleaux on administrative leave was unnecessary. She also said there are other employees who are not allowed to talk about the issue.

"They were actually supposed to give us an explanation within 4 or 5 days. We never received that explanation," said Julie Rinicker.

The board members finally gave Julie and everyone else the reasons for putting CEO Scott Barrilleaux on administrative leave. After a closed door meeting that lasted more than an hour they say there's an open investigation involving Barrilleaux and the Louisiana code of ethics that they didn't know about.

"That being part of the reason for his departure which was not disclosed to me and not this board, at least not in an open meeting."

Other allegations include misusing hospital funds and making costly decisions like hiring consultants that cost $26,000 for only two days of training.

Ms. Rinicker also doesn't believe the allegations.

"I don't know and I think that is why a lot of the community is a little fearful is because we have not seen anything while I was here to justify why he was put on leave," said Rinicker.

We spoke with the board president who is also the interim CEO and he says Scott Barrilleaux has until Thursday to answer the allegations.

Scott Barrilleaux was the CEO for less than ten months and he remains on administrative leave.
