MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A ULM nursing student and her mother were killed while trying to help a driver with a flat tire.

The night of June 15th, 21-year-old ULM senior Shelby Boyles and her mother, Hollie, came out of their house in Burleson, Texas to help a driver stranded on their street.

As Shelby and her mother were helping the stranded driver, teenagers in a truck crashed into the stranded car.

Shortly after, a third car slammed into the crash scene.

Shelby and her mom were hit and killed along with two others.

Investigators say the teens may have been drinking.
