Monroe's Interstate 20 board under investigation

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Monroe board caught in a feud between the mayor and several city council members is now under investigation.

The Legislative Auditor's office confirms the Interstate 20 Economic Development Board is being looked into this month. The auditor's office is not releasing the purpose of the investigation. They're also not releasing any information about what type of documents they're requesting or questions they're asking city workers and board members.

They do confirm, if there are any findings of money issues or management problems, they will release that in a report. That document will be available to the public.

This board is in charge of developing property in a stretch of land near Pecanland Mall to increase more business in Monroe.

A parish judge has called off any new appointments to this board until a hearing.

Several city council members and the mayor are at odds over the I-20 group. There are several measures waiting for a final vote with city council. One deals with the way the group has closed door meetings and the other involves how much power the mayor should have over that board and other boards in the city.
