MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Officials with the Louisiana Department of transportation and Development say the Louisville bridge project is progressing as scheduled.

They say, this week the old bearings were removed and the contractor began fabricating the new bearings to fit the bridge. On Saturday, the contractor is expected to begin installing the new bearings.

Next week, work is dedicated to the installation and re-assembly of the bearings of the bridge. This is the second full week of the bridge closing. The closing was expected to create traffic bottlenecks on both the Endom Bridge and Interstate 20. However, state police report that overall traffic has been moving smoothly.

The DOTD will host a news conference Friday morning to show off the work completed on the Lea Joyner bridge thus far.
