RICHLAND PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Louisiana State Troopers are investigating a fatal crash near another accident that closed part of I-20 Tuesday morning.

The fatal two vehicle accident happened just after 11:00 a.m. on U.S. Highway 80 west of Louisiana Highway 133 North. Highway 80 was being used to divert traffic off of Interstate 20 following the rollover of a semi carrying frozen chicken earlier in the morning. LSP has not said if the detour had any relation to the fatal crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a Nissan Pathfinder, driven by 59-year-old Shirley Kennedy of Oak Ridge, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 80 when it crossed the center line. Kennedy's vehicle partially entered the west travel lane and struck the trailer of a Freightliner, driven by 56-year-old Daniel Wilson of Monroe. Wilson was traveling west on U.S. Highway 80.

The Freightliner was hauling a properly marked oversized farm implement. The Nissan traveled off the right side of the road and overturned. The Freightliner came to a stop on U.S. Highway 80.

Kennedy was wearing her seat belt. Kennedy suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Richland Parish Coroner's office. Wilson was wearing his seat belt and did not report any injuries.

Alcohol use is not suspected. Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
