Update: Overturned semi load of frozen chicken cleared

Posted: Updated:

Update: It took most of Tuesday for crews to clear the overturned semi carrying frozen chicken from Interstate 20. The truck overturned this morning after state police say the driver over compensated.

None of the cargo was spilled and the driver was not injured, but the 18-wheeler had to be unloaded and flipped. For several hours traffic was rerouted on Highway 80. The accident happened near the Milhaven exit, just east of Monroe in the I-20 eastbound lane.

Previous report:

Update: Crews tell us the truck was carrying 40,00 pounds of frozen chicken. While the chicken

did not spill out of the semi, it does have to be removed so the truck car be flipped right side and towed away.

LSP says clean up could take most of the day and that Interstate 20 will likely be reopened during that process. However, lane restrictions may continue, along with temporary road closures to clear the scene.
