Lea Joyner bridge set to close Saturday

MONROE,La. (KNOE 8 News)-Business is booming near the Lea Joyner bridge,but at Car Town manager Trey Phillips is preparing for a drop in sales.

" The bridge closing down is going to effect our drive by traffic the people that actually drive by day to day and see our cars out here but we are rapping up our advertising campaigns some mail outs and some promotions to previous customers" says Phillips.

Local law enforcement is in on the effort too. With the help of the department of transportation they will be ready for the influx of traffic on i-20. they will have resources in place to clear accidents quickly.

"We are prepared to handle what comes up, everybody has additional personal D-O-T-D has provided a tow-truck and a map truck, we will have a chopper in the sky Monday we are going to have more troopers there" say Paxton.

The bridge will be closed for four weeks beginning Saturday and another four weeks later in the summer. Most traffic will be directed to i-20. Drivers will have to change their routines, adjust their routes and give themselves more time to get

" Its going to take longer to get to work I am going to have to go all the way around and deal with more traffic but it will be alright" say Phillips.

There is a special app created to help you around the traffic jams, it is called "Way to Geux". Along with the app you can follow DOTD_traffic or call 5-1-1 for traffic information.
