UPDATE Friday 11:13PM:

According to the latest e-mail notification sent to La Tech students by campus police, the reported abduction and sexual assault did not occur.

The student that falsified the crime is now being charge with filing a false report, or criminal mischief.

Original Story:

RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Louisiana Tech University campus police received a report of an abduction and sexual assault Friday afternoon.

It's the last day of class for students at Louisiana Tech and they're ready for summer break. After hearing about a reported sexual assault, many are packing their bags even quicker to get off campus. Students got an e-mail warning them a few hours later.

"It said a girl was on campus near the Bio-Med parking lot and a black male armed came to her, abducted her, sexually assaulted her," says student Katie Montou.

After that e-mail, another student received a follow-up text message: "All are reminded to remain vigilant of any suspicious persons and notify police immediately. Correction to the previous notification: suspect described as a white male, possible light complexion, nothing further."

Although the semester is over, a few students still plan to be on campus for summer classes.

"I stay here late at night studying," says Montou, "all engineering students are here late at night studying and campus police are great but they aren't always around."

The suspect is described as a white male, possibly armed. Campus police are telling students to report any suspicious activity.
