Poverty Point event announced

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Poverty Point State Historic Site is offering a ranger-led hike around the 402-acre prehistoric site on Saturday, May 25, at 11 a.m. The 2.6-mile hike will include all of the prehistoric mounds and ridges located on the site, as well as the plaza, and also give visitors the opportunity to study the culture of these ancient inhabitants through interpretation.

Poverty Point State Historic Site offers visitors the opportunity to study the culture of area inhabitants from 1600 to 1100 BC. The $4 admission fee provides access to the museum area, video, hiking trail and tram tour. Children 12 and under and adults 62 and over are admitted free. Poverty Point State Historic Site is located east of Monroe, near Epps on La. 577.
