Reenactment: Reenactors part 3

Posted: Updated:

JEFFERSON, TX. (KNOE 8 News) -  We know from history that Federal forces marched up the Red River, intending to capture Shreveport in 1864.  They were turned back by Confederates at the Battle of Mansfield.

If the Union Army had made it to Shreveport, it is likely they would have moved on Texas. Today is a "what if" battle and the scenario for today's action.

Captain Kevin Adkins, 31st LA Infantry: "The battle plan for today: to drive those Yankees out of Texas, away from LA, away from our families and loved ones."

This is the culmination of this weekends Civil War Reenactment here in Jefferson, TX.  Behind me...Federal troops are staging.  Confederates are are headed for this field of battle.

First Sergeant Ted Brode: "The guys would be getting ready mentally for whatever is to come.  Whatever was ahead of them.  They would know by this time it was going to be pretty tough."

Normally these reenactment battles are a draw between the Blue and Gray.  Because unlike their Civil War counterparts, these soldiers will live to fight another day.
