UPDATE: Interstate back open after serious crash

UPDATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Traffic is flowing again on Interstate-20 in Monroe Wednesday night.

A crash involving an 18-wheeler forced police to shut down several lanes Wednesday evening.

Investigators say two people are recovering from moderate injuries.That's after this ford explorer was pinned underneath an 18-wheeler. All east bound lanes and one westbound lane was shut down near the Monroe Civic Center. Police say the driver of the explorer is at fault for an improper lane change.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY Evening

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) -  Police say an 18-wheeler hit an overturned Ford Explorer which caused the shutdown of I-20 eastbound.

As well, one westbound lane is also closed because the 18-wheeler is leaking fuel. Police say there was a fire, but it is now out. Two people are reportedly injured and were taken to the hospital.

Police ask that travelers avoid the area while clean-up is underway.

There's is some traffic congestion drivers should expect if taking Louisville Avenue in Monroe. Motorists are reporting bumper to bumper traffic heading west. It starts shortly after 18th street and the snail paced traffic heads toward the Lea Joyner Bridge. 

Drivers are also in a bit of traffic along the North 6th Street in Monroe, toward Louisville Avenue. Those drivers are looking to go east onto Louisville Avenue in hopes of getting back onto the interstate.

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - We have breaking news on east bound Interstate 20 near the Civic Center exit.

An 18-wheeler wreck has shut down eastbound lanes in that area. A tractor trailer appears to be partially on top of an overturned car.

So far, we don't have any details on what caused the wreck, or the condition of the people involved. Be prepared to find another route if you're heading in that direction.
