MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Monroe Police have arrested two people for stealing electricity.

Police officials say Rufus Ward and Angela Murphy paid $10 to $15 to have a man turn on their power illegally at their apartment.

The meter base shorted out through the piping in the apartment. Police say it could have electrocuted anyone who took a bath or shower.

Two other apartments were damaged. Both were being held on $9000 bond for stealing the power.
