Gun law passes State House of Representatives

Posted: Updated:

BATON ROUGE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The State House of Representatives approved a measure on Monday that would allow gun buyers and sellers to work around any federal fire arm ban if the gun was made in Louisiana.

The "Louisiana Manufactured Firearms and Ammunition Act" would provide for state licensing and regulations instead of federal oversight.

State Police officials estimate that it would cost $2.2 million to set up a state licensing system initially and then $600 thousand annually.

The bill heads to the State Senate.
