Budget battle in full swing in Baton Rouge

Posted: Updated:

BATON ROUGE, La. (KNOE 8 News) A group of bipartisans are working on the state's budget without Governor Bobby Jindal, and they hope to cut most of the state's tax break programs by 15 percent.

About $329 million would be generated by eliminating the cuts if lawmakers agree.

The group is working on a compromise that would include a mix of spending cuts and new money raised by shrinking the tax break programs.

Governor Jindal believes that the tax breaks help bring jobs to the state and could damage relationships that are built with industries that are in the state or considering coming to the state.
