MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Monroe police bomb unit along with its robot were on the scene Wednesday evening after getting word of a suspicious package.

Standing by in shock was a woman, who doesn't want her name revealed. She dialed 9-1-1 after being within inches of the device at the south Monroe Chase Bank, near Highway 165.

She believed it was the real thing.

"I saw a bomb next my car and some guy walked around it and told me it was a bomb," the witness said.

The police robot took a picture of the device. It showed a book, along with some item wrapped in blue and black paper and small wires laying on the ground.
"With everything going on in the world, you never know what's going to happen," the witness said.

A few feet away from the bank, the bomb pod was waiting for the device. The robot went up to the pod and placed the package inside the container. A member of the bomb unit then yelled "fire in the hole" three times and that's when the device was detonated and blown to pieces.

However, this scary situation will not keep one frightened witness away from the area.

"So, you know, I can't be scared to go somewhere," the witness said.

About two hours later, the bank remained close, but customers are seen using the outside ATM.
Police have yet to figure out who is the person behind the scare, since surveillance video at the bank did not catch the person putting the device in the parking lot.

The person responsible in the third Twin Cities suspicious package even, police say is easily facing 30 years in prison and a number of federal charges, including terrorizing.

UPDATE: KNOE's Ty Russell reports an "all clear" has been given by the bomb squad and authorities working the scene of a suspicious package at the Chase Bank on Highway 165 in Monroe.

Police report the package was detonated and blown into bits and it could take some time to determine its actual contents and if it posed a real threat. We will have a complete report tonight at 10p on KNOE 8 News and here at KNOE.COM.
