UPDATE WEDNESDAY 11:15 P.M.

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Monroe man is in jail Wednesday, accused of raping a woman and then killing her. Police say 40-year-old Louis Alexander confessed to the crimes.

Last month, the body of 48-year-old Deenen Harris was found in an alley on the 500-Block of Desiard Street. Investigators say Alexander and Harris were living at the Desiard Street shelter at the time. Police believe the motive behind the murder was sexually related and they also say their job isn't done just yet.

"This particular case here, as usual the detectives and the investigator bureau will do all follow-ups and any new leads they possibly come up with. They will do the job of not leaving any stone unturned," Sgt. Mark Johnson said.

Alexander is charged with aggravated rape and battery along with second degree murder. He's being held on a $1 million bond.

UPDATE:

Harris' body was found outside a business in the 500 block of Desiard Street in Monroe.
