MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Monroe Police officer is injured following a crash with a Union Pacific Railroad vehicle.

Monroe Police responded to the crash in the 3100 block of Desiard Monday. The crash involved a marked Monroe Police unit and a Union Pacific railroad vehicle. 

Initial investigation reveals the Union Pacific vehicle made an improper turn and struck the police unit, forcing the police car into a utility pole. The police unit was occupied by one officer. The officer was treated for moderate injuries after being extricated from the vehicle. 

Three workers in the Union Pacific vehicle were not injured.  The driver of the Union Pacific vehicle was cited for an improper turn.
