Kisatchie Bayou slough bridge to be replaced

Posted: Updated:

PINEVILLE, La., (KNOE 8 News) – The Kisatchie Bayou slough bridge, located along the Longleaf Trail National Scenic Byway in Natchitoches Parish, is scheduled for replacement, beginning May 5, 2013. It is expected that this part of the Longleaf Trail will be closed for approximately two weeks while a temporary road is constructed allowing thru traffic during the actual bridge replacement construction phase.

The Kisatchie slough bridge provides water flow relief during periods of high water from Kisatchie Bayou; the bridge is located approximately one mile east of the Natchitoches Parish community of Lotus. This infrastructure work is a major Louisiana DOTD project, and will provide safe passage for local residents, forest visitors and emergency responders and the Kisatchie Ranger District employees.

During the two week closure, traffic moving west of the Kisatchie Bayou, particularly those coming from LA #117, will be routed around LA #118, to Forest Development Road #360, Forest Development Road #321 and the Longleaf Trail.

Any traffic coming in from the eastern part of the area, particularly LA #119, will have access to campgrounds and trails. Those forest visitors accustomed to connecting LA #119 to LA #117 will be detoured during this two week period.
