MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Get ready for a major detour on the way this summer in the Twin Cities.

Transportation crews are looking to hear from drivers about it. The Lea Joyner Bridge is shutting down for several weeks this summer.

The transportation department is holding public meetings. The first will be at the West Monroe Convention Center Monday, April 29 at 5:30p.m., followed by a meeting at the Monroe City Hall Tuesday, April 30 at 5:30p.m.

Drivers are already reacting to the change:

"It will be more congested until they get the bridge fixed but I will find an alternate route other than the Interstate," Monica Houston said.

"If it's the best thing to go ahead and do it right now then let's go ahead and knock it out get it done and just go from there." Freddie Mclemore said.

For an alternate route, drivers can take either Interstate 20 or the Endom Bridge in Ouachita Parish.
