UPDATE 7:25 P.M. SUNDAY

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - It all started on Jackson Street in Monroe over the weekend. That's where Ouachita Parish inmate Ronald Lassere, Junior, was working when he escaped from authorities.

"He was brought here by the sheriff's office and picked up by the sheriffs office," Captain Dale Chelette said. "He works a regular day just like any body else. He was checked on, discovered he was not here, he basically just left this work site."

Deputies say the 32-year-old then stole a truck from a Monroe home. He was spotted on security cameras at the Walmart in Winnsboro early Saturday morning and then again on state highway 4 heading west. According to the deputies, that's where he led law enforcement on a chase. He crashed the stolen vehicle, ran from the scene, and eventually stole a second vehicle that he later abandoned near McCaleb road in Winnsboro, according to the sheriff's office.

"His original charges were out of Claiborne Parish, he was actually a doc prisoner from Claiborne Parish. Those charges, we understand, was a probation violated on the original burglary charges," Chelette said.

If you have any information on Lassere's whereabouts call the sheriff's office.
