WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - West Monroe attorney Francis Broussard has pleaded guilty for making false, fictitious and fraudulent claims to the IRS.

The US Attorney's Office says Broussard tried to receive almost $10-million-dollars in tax refunds. The IRS says he had his accountant prepare returns, but they were never filed.

Those returns, however, were used to obtain personal loans and other types of financing.

Broussard faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and one year of supervised release.
