UPDATE THURSDAY 12:00 A.M.

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The West Monroe Walmart is no longer in any sings of danger after a suspicious package was found Wednesday night.

West Monroe police say a Walmart employee called to report a suspicious item near the Home and Pharmacy entrance around 7:40 P.M. Officers then evacuated the building.

Monroe police assisted West Monroe officers. Monroe's Bomb Disposal Unit was on the scene to detonate the suspicious bag. Investigators say after a brief x-ray of the item, they found clothing inside and other unknown items. Therefore, detectives say they needed to detonate the bag to ensure extra safety.

However, there was a slight issue during the first detonation process. Police attempted to use a water discharge to blow up the bag, but that failed. Police then moved the bag to a bomb proof box for detonation around 10:00 P.M. According to police, that was a successful attempt.

It's not yet known how the bag ended up inside the store. West Monroe police officers are reviewing surveillance video from Walmart.

No word on any potential charges.

Police say during this heightened time, be sure to keep your personal items with you at all times.

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Customers and employees have evacuated the Walmart Supercenter in West Monroe as police investigate a suspicious bag at the store's entrance.

It began at about 7:40 on Wednesday evening, when store employees reported the bag to West Monroe Police.   Due to recent national events, police evacuated the store, and the Monroe Police Department's Bomb Disposal Unit was notified.  

The content of the suspicious package is still unknown at this point.

KNOE 8 News has a crew at the store and will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
