Citizens Medical Center staff complete Air Evac training

COLUMBIA, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Air Evac Lifeteam employees from two bases recently teamed up to teach three days of classes at Citizens Medical Center in Columbia, La.

Base Clinical Lead Thomas McKinley from Rayville and Clinical Lead Michael Laws from Camden, Ark. taught CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support to doctors and nurses at the 40-bed acute care medical center.

Mike Hailey, director of nurses at Citizens Medical Center, said the classes recertified the nurses in several areas.

"There are new regulations and changes in procedures, so the Air Evac Lifeteam instructors brought our nurses up to speed," he said. "They are very thorough and professional. They helped our nurses quite a bit."

In fact, Hailey asked Thomas McKinley to return at the end of May to present material to a group of students coming out of the tenth and eleventh grades.

"The students are part of the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program," Hailey said. "They spend 15 days in the summer learning about all different aspects of the medical field."
