TALLULAH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Madison Parish School Board has refused to accept Superintendent Lisa Wilmore's resignation.

Wilmore, who has one year left on her contract, agreed to stay.

The board's vote was 4-3 Tuesday night in favor of refusing to accept her resignation.

When Wilmore assumed the leadership in 2011, the district had a deficit of more than $2.2 million, but this year will end with a $400,000 - $500,000 surplus.

The district, which has a history of academic challenges, has improved its district performance score by 6 points under Wilmore's guidance.

Wilmore is a former principal of Berg Jones Elementary in Monroe.
