Former sheriff sentenced for disorderly conduct

SEARCY, Ark. (KNOW 8 News) - A former White County sheriff has been fined $350 after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge.

Former Sheriff Pat Garrett entered the plea Tuesday in White County Circuit Court. Prosecutors accused him of pointing a pistol at his sister and her boyfriend.

Garrett's attorney, Paul Petty, said that the former sheriff was involved in a family dispute "that got a little out of hand."

He had faced a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Garrett served three terms as sheriff from 2001 to 2007. He lost his re-election bid in 2006.
