MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Prenatal vitamins, mommy pamphlets, along with a toothbrush were left behind in downtown Monroe following a suspicious suitcase found near the federal courthouse.

"We had to leave and they asked us did we know anything about a suitcase down the street, I told them no," Joe Bounds said.

Bounds has an office directly in front of the courthouse.

An evacuation order was in full effect Monday night on Jackson Street.

"They saw an electronic device in it, and that doesn't look too good in a suitcase, sitting by itself on the side of the road, across the street from the courthouse,"Casey Dieterich said.

Dieterich is the owner of what was the suspicious suitcase.

"I stupidly left a suitcase once I was getting my son away from the hospital," Dieterich said.

The 30-year-old first-time dad is not giving law enforcement an evil eye, even though he was a bystander watching police blow up his bag after discovering a device which turned out to be a baby monitor.

"They did what they had to. They told me, safety precautions came up," Dieterich said.

One thing that didn't come up was the thought of this bag being one his favorites.

"The suitcase came from an old friend of mine who moved out of my house and left it behind," Dieterich said. "So, it's one of those things at least I didn't buy that suitcase."

And for all the future elementary school students who think they have a story for show and tell, Dieterich says think again.

"He's going to have a story on the first day of kindergarten. He's going to be like my daddy is so stupid he was almost arrested for leaving a suitcase."

The mom and newborn are all doing fine after leaving the hospital Monday. However, Dieterich said the only item he's really missing that was inside the suitcase, is his expensive toothbrush.
