Sen. Landrieu speaks out about the gun debate

BATON ROUGE, La. (KNOE 8 News/ CNN) - A federal lawmaker from Louisiana is feeling the heat over the gun control debate. U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu is one of a handful of Democrats who is watching their seat during their re-election campaign.

Lawmakers are going over ways to end mass shootings. Some believe background checks may be the answer.

But Landrieu, representing the Bayou State, is not ready to pull the trigger on background checks.

"Well, I haven't seen the bills. Until I see the bills and then I'll decide how I'm going to vote. But there's no question about my support for the Second Amendment," Sen. Landrieu said.

Some Democrats in Senate believe their votes in favor of background checks could cost them their seats and hand the Senate to Republicans.
