Armstrong: No violations in city budget

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Monroe City Council member is speaking out after  Mayor Jamie Mayo vetoed the proposed budget.

Mayor Mayo says he couldn't approve it for three main reasons Thursday. He said it would create a deficit for the city, also the negatively would have an effect on Monroe's bond rating, and that some of the council's amendments to the budget violate the city charter.

But city Councilman Ray Armstrong says no rules were violated.

"We said how we'd like to see it spent, but it's up to the mayor to make that decision that's his job," Armstrong said.

To override the mayor's veto, the council must have a 4 to 1 vote, if they don't reach that, the original budget will be enacted.
